Hi Lezlee!  I hope this email finds you well.

Are you planning on attending the Reunion Party this Saturday?  We're hoping to recreate the Survivors' Circle (carrying and raising of the 3-Day flag), and a few of the survivors we used on the event are unable to attend.  I was hoping that you might be able to fill in.

If you are not planning on going, that's okay too, just let me know what you think!  Have a great week!

Hi Jaime,  Sorry I didn't get back to you yesterday, don't always have access to a computer since I moved to Austin.   I've been really wishy-washy on the Reunion.  I WANT to come but have already set up a team for the SGK 5k here in Austin on Sunday morning so it would require my driving there Fri night, coming to the reunion and then driving back right after.  I would LOVE to help you out but haven't made any firm plans.  If you can't find someone then let me know and that will make up my mind for me <G> otherwise, I've already signed up to be crew next year.

Hi Lezlee!  Thanks for getting back to me!  Don't worry at all about coming all the way to Dallas for the Reunion Party - I think it's great that you're doing the Komen 5K in Austin!

I'm so glad you're going to crew this year.  Please let me know if there is ever anything I can do for you!  Have a great weekend!

Hi Lezlee,                                                    10-14-05
I saw your story on AOL, what a strong young lady you are...
Really touched by your story...  I lost my Grandmother back
in the 60's from Breast Cancer...She was a fighter...she had
one breast removed and then the other later on, she made
it 5 years but back then they didn't know much about it as
they do today...She gave it all she had right to the end....
I have always feared Breast Cancer every since then, as
she really had a rough time of it...Your story told me that
we can beat this...Thank You...Any time you want to IM
Or E-mail me is fine...I would love to hear from you often.
Love your outgoing personality...love the pink hair...that
takes a lot to do and you are making a statement...You
Are one strong lady...God Bless You...

Hello How are you? I was reading your journal entry and was so touched. My mom was diagnosed with Breast Cancer in Feb. of this year. She has completed Chemo and is in her first week of radiation. I am so scared to take my Mammogram on the 13th of Oct. I must say hearing stories like yourself is the reason why I am going to stand proud and put my fears to rest. I wish you and your family the best!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Markita R_  Detroit,MI

 Hi Markita!
Thanks for your e-mail, sorry it has taken me so long to respond but I've been somewhat busy in the last week... Dallas had their annual Susan G Komen Race for the Cure and I had to go up and run it!
Anyhow, please don't be afraid to get your Mammogram!  Ohhh wait, you already did.  How did it go?  Besides being somewhat painful that is?  If you have a strong family history of Breast Cancer then be sure to talk to your doctor, the key to survival is EARLY DETECTION and even though I thoroughly recommend having Mammograms I also would suggest a ultrasound or CT scan if you can convince your doctor of it.  Unfortunately, Mammograms don't catch everything and while it worked for me, I know my doctors had also done the ultrasound when I first started developing cysts and I really think that having all of the extra tests were what helped them detect mine early.
Since your mom is undergoing the full treatment plan I take it she didn't have a mastectomy? Or was it in her lymph nodes?  My prayers are with her and I hope that she has a medical care team as fantastic as the ones that I had!
   Please keep in touch!
Love, Lezlee

Hello and How are you? I am scared to death! I just got back from the Dr.s office and yep, they said that my left breast tissue is abnormal and I have to take a ultrasound to get a better picture.  They said I have mixed fatty tissue and heterogeneously dense firbroglandular tissue.  I am confident that it will all be fine, but it is scary at the same time. I have your cell phone number and I will only bug you when I feel I am not a burden. I can't get an appt. until November 23rd which is far away. I am going to be prayful and hopeful. I am keeping the faith.  Markita.. Thanks for your time and listening to me..................

It will not be a burden for you to call, if I were at all concerned about that I wouldn't have shared my cell phone number with you - please, if you need a shoulder or need to talk to someone who has been there then feel free to call ANYTIME!!!!!   The dense firbroglandular tissue is fairly common, and the ultrasound is a fantastic way for them to verify that that is actually what it is..... To be honest, when I had my biopsy, it never dawned on me that I might have cancer... I had gotten so accoustomed to the idea that I had to have extra monitoring that I never thought about it being anything major... go figure.  Some days I am most decidely a born blonde!
Anyhow, the 23rd is the same date that I have my next doctors appointment / treatment so I will have no problem remembering it.... call before then if you'd like but even if you don't call, KEEP IN TOUCH and let me know what is going on please.
  Love and HUGS,
Lezlee

Thanks for responding. I had my mamm. and they mashed my boobies bad:) I think everything went well. They said they would forward everything to my family doctor. I am glad you gave me some suggestions about the ct and ultrasound. My mom had a lump. and is in her 3rd week of radiation. Through her ct scan, she learned she had a stroke before and didn't know it. Isn't that something? We are in Detroit,MI and the Karmanos Institute is the best. You take care  and Keep the faith! You are a strong lady!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Subject: Question on Lymph nodes taken on both sides

Dear Lezlee,

I just found your blog on AOL and I have a question--did you have lymph nodes taken on both sides?

I had breast cancer 11 years ago and have had lymphademia for years on that side. In my experience, women who have radiation are more adapt to get lymphademia and my radiation oncologist agrees. I had no set reason for it excpet a slow developement.

Now, in August, I had a mastectomy and lymph nodes  taken on the right side. Already I see swelling in that arm even without radiaton. I have asked doctors what I can do now for blood pressure, blood draws, and IVs. They have no anwser except to do alternate arms. Last month, I had my blood pressure taken in the left arm and it took days for the pain to subside. Just wondered if you are dealing with this issue?

Take care!!!! You are a strong survivor or I prefer the word thriver!

 Hi Lola,
Nope, I only had lymph nodes taken on one side so I do have an alternate arm for them to use for blood pressure and blood samples, etc.  BUT, that was an issue that I was concerned about just cause it might have happened so I did ask several doctors and nurses what should be done if lymph nodes are taken on both sides.  What I was told was that they can check your blood pressure from your upper leg and that drawing blood can be done from alternate veins in the legs and receiving shots can normally be done in the hips.  BUT, you have to tell the nurse or practicioner who is doing the procedure and let them know that you don't want them to use either arm.  I have found some who try to be insistent that they have to use the nodeless arm and I refuse to let them do it.  Just stand strong and tell them you want to keep your body healthy!

Dear Lezlee,

Thanks for your reply! I think we learn a lot from the whole network of survivors. We have a support group here called Bittersweet and we have all become close friends over 11 years-of course with new members as well.

The arm issue is tricky because the blood pressure in the leg can be very inaccurate as I discovered while in the hospital. They kept me an extra day because my readings were so weird until they finally figured it out. I have to take the pressure in my arm-and it hurts for days after-because I am on Blood Pressure meds and the leg doesn't give accurate enough readings on me. I have to say that the most long lasting issue (luckily) with my other side was the arm issue. Now, I have to fear cuts, bites, medical procedures on both sides. I guess everything is complicated in some ways for most people and as we all learn--we are alive and that is very important.

I live in the D.C. suburbs and along with Marin County near San Francisco and Long Island, we are one of the high concentration areas for breast cancer. My onocologist, Dr. Robert, is a breast cancer researcher and he has no answers to the whys. Life is uncertain at best but I hope you are fiinding things to enrich your life!!

Love, Lola

Subject: KFYI appearance

Dear Lezlee,
I heard you on KFYI while I was driving between appointments in my car.  What fools these mortals be.  I'm the husband of a 58 year old uterine cancer survivor and my wife and I were best friends to a 54 year old colon cancer victim who didn't make it. We held her hand through many bouts of chemo, surgery, recovery and at the end when she was barely capable of squeezing my finger to let us know she was still there. For anyone to quibble over seeing a survivor's scars merely shows how petty and sheltered their world is.
Keep up the good work, and I'd love your hair, even if it didn't have a special meaning. Most people don't realize that having hair is a pretty good thing. :)
Best Regards,
Gary W.

Hello Lezlee.  My name is Phillip K.  I just wanted to let you know that I read all of your postings and I felt a lot of compassion for your situation and was wondering if things were getting better for you?  I have been lucky enough to not have to go through anything like this with my family as of yet and of course I hope I never have to.  Although I do worry about my Mother and my Sister when I read or hear of others who are dealing with this.  I felt very compelled to let you know that I truly hope things are going well for you since your move.  I also wanted to let you know that if you ever need anyone to talk you can shoot me an email anytime.
Well Lezlee I assume that most of the people you chat with are other ladies who have been through this as well.  But I just wanted to let you know that I was thinking of you and hope you are doing well and I wish you the best.  I won't take up anymore of your time.

Best Wishes

Phil

Hello, Dear friend.

My name is Hendri, I was reading your message on AOL
health pages. and I am very touched by your story. six
month ago I discovered my friend was diagnosed with
cancer. and I was helping him to find a cure for it,
since He refused to get chemotherapy done to him,
because He knows the side affects He doesn't like to
hear. so in search I met this Gentlemen whom His Wife
was diagnose with Liver cancer and was given six
months to live. someone had introduced them to
GLYCONUTRIENT and She was taking it for six week, and
she noticed that something is taking place in Her
body, she continued to take it and by the end of
twelve week She went for CT SCAN, and her Doctor very
surprise to discovered that Her cancer had fully
remission and that cancer were now dead and black
tissue only and She has been free of cancer ever
since. so this Gentlemen invited me to his home were
the Doctor who prescribed the GLYCONUTRIENT had come
and conducting small health seminar full of cancer
patient, and my friend had been taking GLYCONURTIENT
from that day, and expected to a full recovery and
cancer free. and since that day I began to promote
this NEW DISCOVERY IN HEALTH to everyone I came in
touch with.
